Instructions for care and use

NordiCare works hard to develop functional and user-friendly products for both patients and professionals. All of our products have been carefully designed to provide for the best functionality and fit, as well as making sure they are easy to use and can work as part of your everyday life. In this section we have compiled information on the best ways to use and take care of your compression garments to maintain them as well as possible.

Washing your compression garments

All of our compression garments are washing machine safe, making it easy to keep them clean and fresh. For prolonged use, it can be beneficial to have two garments to alternate between; that way you have one to wear while you wash the other.

We generally recommend washing at 40 degrees Celsius as the durability of the garments is typically extended when washed at lower temperatures. Our compression garments can be washed at 60 degrees Celsius if necessary. Please see the washing instructions on your compression garment or the accompanying user instructions for exact details. Do not use bleach, chlorine-based detergents, or fabric softener, as these chemicals can destroy the elastic in the garment.

In order to maintain the elasticity of your garment, they should not be tumble-dried in a dryer machine or placed flat after being washed. They should instead be hang-dried. The compression garments are made of quick-drying material to make it easy to wash and dry them.

Tips for wearing the garments

For a good fit, the compression garment should sit tight on your body without feeling uncomfortable. It may take a bit of patience and practice to wear it correctly, especially soon after your operation, as the affected areas may be swollen and sensitive. Because swelling will decrease over time, you may need a smaller size garment at a later stage in the healing period in order to maintain the right fit and compression. If you are unsure regarding size and fit, you can read more under the “Measurement & Size Tables” section.

All compression garments and bras:
- Snap the assistance buttons (the eyes and notches) that lie underneath the zipper. Make sure the strip underneath the buttons lies flush against the skin and does not form any bumps.

- Once the buttons have been fastened, pull up the zipper. Keep a firm grip at the bottom of the zipper, holding fast as you slowly pull the zipper to the top.

- Hook your arms in and adjust the shoulder straps/snaps to the correct lengths. Adjust them so that the garment/bra provides support underneath your armpit without causing any chafing.

Compression trousers and body garments:
- The easiest way to put the garment on is to do so while sitting.
- Thread in one leg at a time.
- Pull the garment upwards in small steps, as if you were putting on a pair of tights.
- Make sure that the garment is comfortable, and then continue pulling it all the way up.
